Greetings from the Key West Command Center. First of all everyone at the Yankee Capts wishes everyone a very Happy Holidays and prosperous New Year. This scribe no matter how busy he might be is always thankful for your all of your patronage and friendship. 2016 was a great year. I expect only better for 2017.

This past week we managed to get the Yankee Capts back in the water. As usual we had a big push in the end. Incredibly I only had two things on the list that were not addressed. They were not very important and cosmetic in nature.

I am happy to report all the work on the running gear exceeded my expectations. Nice and smooth with no noticeable vibration in the running gear. Also speed was up too. I only ran the engines to 1800 RPMs and was making 19 knots.  Although we were light on fuel, no ice and did not have 10,000 pounds of coolers and gear people bring. Soon as we get a trip with a big group I think we will see a easy 15 knot cruise if needed. Here are couple of shots of some of the work-

Most of the work done you can’t tell by the pictures. Here is most of the work order

  • 2 Coats Epoxy barrier coat primer
  • 5 Coats of Interlux 640 bottom paint
  • New rudders and rudder bearings
  • New cutlass and intermediate bearings
  • New PSS Shaft Seals
  • Props reconditioned
  • Checked shafts with dial indicator, Shafts had less than a one thousands of run out.
  • New MDS tank and plumbing
  • Replaced 4 thru hull valves
  • New 1 1/2 inch thru hull for the A/C system
  • Hull and rub rail primed and painted with Awlgrip
  • Installed Seimens Capac monitoring system for electrolysis.
  • New Shaft, rudder and hull zincs

I know I missed a few things but you can see we were busy. I must make a huge shoutout to the crew, Crystal, Ryan, Max and Lyndon. Without their hard work I think we might still be in the yard. Also many thanks to Eric Gladding from Gladding Marine and Steve from Peninsular Boat Repair. Both are real pros. All I have to do is point to the work and off the they go. At the end they are done before they say they are gonna be. Plus the price is more than fair. The work is always exceeds my expectations. The piece of mind I get from those guys is priceless. Lastly Adel, Jarbas,RV, Tiago, Eduardo and Ron Teke. They participated during the haulout and were very helpful. Many many thanks everyone!

Next trip is coming up between Christmas and New Years. We leave 12/27 and return on 12/30. Still plenty of room. Plus everyday the forecast looks great. If your interested please click here. Hopefully we can end the year with a big trip.

Happy Holiday everyone! Enjoy!

Regards,

Greg
